Every superhero starts with an origin story. An event that starts the hero down the path to becoming more than they were before. No matter what the event looks like, the outcome is the same – the hero starts to make a difference in a larger world.

Great education is an origin story for future superheroes!

For more than 23 years, we’ve seen young people spring into a brighter future thanks to education. Access to high-quality, innovative educational programs give students a chance to explore college, careers, and opportunities to make a difference in the world.

For the children living in affordable housing communities, their superhero origin story starts at a Project Access Family Resource Center. In more than 80 centers across the country, students can access free after-school and summer programs including:

All this month, we’re calling on the Project Access community to Spring Into Action and donate to give more kids a chance to learn, explore, and grow. Your gift will help us reach more students, create more learning opportunities, and give the families we serve access to a brighter future. Together, we aim to raise $60,000 to support families living in low-income communities.

The Journey to a Brighter Future

Jocelyn is a first-year college student at the University of Denver with aspirations to become a social worker one day. Here is a closer look at how your gift can spring individuals like Jocelyn into a brighter future:

Before enrolling in kindergarten, Jocelyn attended the on-site school readiness program that prepared her cognitively, socially, and emotionally for school.
While attending elementary and middle school, Jocelyn regularly attended the After-School Program to get homework help, participate in enrichment activities, and go on educational field trips. Having a safe and nurturing space to go to daily helped Jocelyn maintain high academic performance in school.
In high school, Jocelyn joined the Teen Club where she learned leadership skills through service-learning opportunities and built her self-confidence
With graduation on the horizon, Jocelyn joined the College Quest program where she received ongoing support with admissions, financial aid, and career planning. She applied to 11 colleges and was accepted to 7 of them.
Jocelyn just completed her first quarter at the University of Denver with a 4.0 GPA. She plans on exploring volunteer and internship opportunities with Project Access—at a Resource Center close to campus or back home in California.
