We have some thrilling news about the Sun Prairie complex and how you can play a part in its transformation. After extensive discussions and meticulous planning, we've secured a commitment from the city to allocate funds for much-needed upgrades. This is a pivotal moment for us, and we must seize this opportunity to enhance our facilities, or we risk forfeiting substantial financial support.

The current state of the complex's fences, dugouts, and scoreboards is no longer tenable—they are antiquated and, in many cases, irreparable. SPYBAS is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all who visit and utilize the complex, fostering a secure environment conducive to play and learning.

Our mission is to offer a dynamic, enjoyable, and secure baseball and softball experience for Sun Prairie's youth. We emphasize the joy of the game, mastery of the fundamentals, and the cultivation of sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership—all while contributing positively to the Sun Prairie community. Moreover, a recent economic impact study has highlighted the substantial revenue SPYBAS generates for the city through hosting tournaments. We are committed to maintaining Sun Prairie's reputation as a premier tournament destination, thereby bolstering the local economy.

Here's what's on the horizon for the complex:

This fall, we will be revitalizing the complex with new fencing, eight dugouts, four scoreboards, and upgraded batting cages.
Looking ahead, we have ambitious plans to further enhance the complex, including developing a practice green space and upgrading our facilities, contingent on the success of our current fundraising campaign.

WHY FENCING?

The city of Sun Prairie owns the land where the Baseball and Softball Complex reside. Through a long-standing memorandum of understanding, the city gave SPYBAS the ability to use this land for youth baseball and softball and agreed to cover half the costs to install and maintain the infield portion of fencing at the complex.

WHY NOW?

After years of discussion, collaboration and planning, the city was able to budget funds this cycle to help support improvements needed at the Sun Prairie complex. If we do not take advantage of these funds, we will lose out on a significant amount of monetary support from the city.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO THE ORGANIZATION?

The fences, dugouts and scoreboards are old, outdated and beyond repair in many instances. SPYBAS wants to ensure the safety of players and visitors while using the complex and provide a safe play and learning environment for all athletes.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT TO OUR COMMUNITY?

Our goal is to provide a competitive, fun and safe baseball and softball experience for the youth of Sun Prairie with a focus on fun and fundamentals achieved with an emphasis on good sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership all while supporting the Sun Prairie community. In addition, a recent economic impact study showed the significant amount of revenue SPYBAS brings into Sun Prairie each year hosting baseball and softball tournaments. We want to retain our status as a destination city for these tournaments while contributing to and supporting the economic health of our community.

What upgrades are taking place at the complex?

In the fall of 2024 SPYBAS will be replacing all the fencing at the complex, 8 dugouts, 4 scoreboards along with modernizing the batting cages.

Who will be paying for upgrades?

The city of Sun Prairie owns the land and has a long-term memorandum of understanding with SPYBAS. The city of Sun Prairie has budgeted $315,000 for the project. Preliminary bids have a total project cost of $850,000.

How does SPYBAS intend to raise $535,000?

SPYBAS has been saving the proceeds of past cookie doughs sales and currently has $125,000 allocated for the project. We are actively fundraising for the remaining $410,000.

Are there future upgrades planned for the complex?

Depending on the success of this fundraiser, YES! As part of the Sheehan master plan SPYBAS has 11 acres to the south of our existing complex. We would like to level the area and create a green space for teams to practice. Additionally, we intend to add a storage shed on the 11 acres and remodel our existing concession stand. The goal would be to complete these projects prior to the 2026 season.

Current SPYBAS families can sell cookie dough or opt out by making a donation to SPYBAS Facilities Improvement Campaign. Recognition starts at $500. Families who sell 25 boxes of cookie dough qualify for the singles club.

Contributions to the Singles, Doubles, Triples, Home Run and Grand Slam Club received by May 29th will be recognized at the Sun Prairie Complex this season. Any donations received after May 29th will be recognized in the 2025 season.
