Please Support the Education Component of the Hill Station Tennis Club

Support Sports in Sierra Leone uses the Hill Station Tennis Club to capture a young person’s attention by offering to teach him to play tennis.  Once we have the child's attention we offer activities that are designed to educate and help develop young Sierra Leoneans. The Education Component of our program is centered on four themes: The Environment; History; Culture; and, Civic Pride and Civic Responsibility.

This month we commence the Education Component with an activity that touches three themes, history, culture, and civic pride. On April 27th, Sierra Leone’s Independence Day, our kids will have an Independence Day Cultural Presentation, delivered by the Futprints Afrika-Sierra Leone organization.  We want our kids to leave this presentation uplifted and proud to be citizens of Sierra Leone.

We need your help to deliver this activity and the other activities that are part of our Education Component. The other activities that form the program’s Education Component are:

  1. A presentation from an environmental activist on the importance of keeping Freetown’s streets and beaches clean and free of litter (May)
  2. A presentation from a historian who will explain the deep ties between the people of Sierra Leone and the people of the United States (July)
  3. A field trip to the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary to learn about the importance of conservation and protecting the biodiversity of Sierra Leone (June)
