A Home For Her "Her Homes Housing & Resources"

I am Asha Scott, the founder of Her Homes Housing and Resources. My story begins in Gary, Indiana, where I was born to a beautiful and loving mother. She was my world, raising me with endless love and care until her untimely death in September 1997. The loss was profound, marking a turning point in my young life that I struggled to comprehend.

After my mother's passing, I moved to Woodland Hills, California, to live with my aunt and uncle. They welcomed me into their home and raised me with kindness and support, instilling values of faith and hope that would shape my future. Despite their best efforts, my teenage years were marked by a struggle with self-esteem and the heavy burden of grief.

As a teenager, feelings of inadequacy often plagued me, pushing me to create false narratives to fit in with my peers. Navigating adolescence while grappling with profound loss was incredibly challenging. However, these experiences taught me resilience and the importance of being true to myself.

Through my struggles, I turned to my faith—a steadfast pillar that my aunt and uncle emphasized throughout my upbringing. Their unwavering support and the foundation of faith they provided helped me gradually build confidence and a sense of self-worth.

At 19, I became a mother, believing that love and relationships would help me discover my identity. My journey through young motherhood was fraught with challenges, including failed relationships and homelessness. However, I sought out programs designed to assist women and mothers, which ultimately helped me regain my footing. By the age of 29, I moved to McKinney, Texas, in search of a new beginning for my children and me.

Having grown accustomed to independence and struggling to trust others, I turned to my foundation in Christ. Despite my many mistakes, nothing fulfilled me like His love. His grace propelled me toward my purpose: helping others and guiding them to find their purpose in Christ.

The challenges I faced fueled my passion for helping others, leading to the creation of Her Homes Housing. I envisioned a space where individuals could find the support, compassion, and resources necessary to overcome their obstacles. Her Homes Housing represents not only my journey but also a beacon of hope for those who have faced adversity.

Today, I am a healed wife, mother, mentor, and friend. My aim is to embody the best version of myself that God intended. In 2014, I founded my nonprofit, Divas Build Futures Inc., to mentor, empower, and uplift girls and women. Moving to Texas in 2016 has been a vital step in my faith mission, enabling me to change my life and assist others in doing the same.

In November 2023, I established Her Homes to restore lives and rekindle hope in communities that have lost their way. My name, A'sha, signifies hope, and I aspire to build a community where individuals recognize their worth and believe they can overcome their challenges. As I continue this journey, I am dedicated to expanding Her Homes Housing to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can create a supportive environment where stability and independence are achievable for all. I pray for the world to witness the transformative power of faith and how God can truly change lives. This is my story.
