Story
Carlene started traditional medicine treatment for retinoblastoma in November 2020. She received a clean MRI with no evidence of disease in May 2021. Unfortunately, she relapsed in April 2022. She started the current treatment journey May 2, 2022, when she traveled from her home in Kingston, Jamaica to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. She had emergency surgery to remove her left eye and the large tumor growing behind it.
Carly endured months of high dose chemotherapy and had many setbacks due to infection and side effects. Thankfully, she completed the necessary chemotherapy needed to receive her stem cell transplant on October 18, 2022. The initial post-transplant scans showed no further evidence of disease. Unfortunately, the MRI Carly had on February 20, 2023, showed the unimaginable, her tumor had returned.
Carly now faces much uncertainty. Her once positive prognosis of a 95% chance of being cured has declined dramatically. We know that Carly is a fighter and makes us proud every day. We look forward to sharing her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney Land and making every day before and after as magical as possible!
Carlene will celebrate her 3rd birthday on May 7, 2023. She will celebrate at Disney World on her Make-A-Wish trip. We are hosting a live stream event to help Carly celebrate with supporters around the world at the happiest place on earth.
