For nearly 20 years, La Crescent Animal Rescue (LAR) has been powered entirely by volunteers and supported by a community that believes in second chances for animals in need. Since our founding in 2005, we’ve operated as a no-kill, nonprofit shelter focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals throughout the City of La Crescent.

The Vision: A New Shelter on Land We Own

We are now exploring a bold but essential project: acquiring land and constructing a new shelter facility that allows us to:

Increase our animal care and adoption capacity
Create dedicated spaces for intake, medical care, meet-and-greets, and community education
Operate with greater flexibility, efficiency, and professionalism
Build a foundation for county-wide service delivery, not just La Crescent
Potentially incorporate revenue-generating retail space to strengthen long-term sustainability
