Support SciTech Students During the State Budget Impasse
Like every Pittsburgh Public School, SciTech is being affected by the Pennsylvania state budget impasse. Now more than 100 days late, the lack of a state budget means the loss of millions of dollars for individual districts. Every day without a budget means fewer resources for our students. We are feeling that at SciTech where the PTO is now getting teacher requests for basic needs like paper, lab supplies, and buses for field trips.
If you are able, please consider making a donation to help fund these requests. We will use this money to fund emergency classroom needs like ordering paper, lab supplies, afterschool activities, and anything else that our amazing staff might need help with. One area they've asked for our help in is starting a school-side food drive to help families affected by the cuts to SNAP benefits. More to come on that.
Also, please contact your state legislators and advocate for an immediate resolution that prioritizes students and protects public education. A statement from the district about all of this below.
Thank you!

Statement from the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board of Public Education on Pennsylvania State Budget Impasse
Board Urges Lawmakers to Prioritize Students and Resolve State Budget Impasse
PITTSBURGH, October 15, 2025
During this evening’s Agenda Review Meeting, Board President Gene Walker read the following statement on behalf of the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education regarding the impact of the Commonwealth’s ongoing 2025–26 state budget impasse on district operations. “The Pittsburgh Board of Public Education stands united in its support of Superintendent Dr. Wayne N. Walters and the temporary fiscal safeguards enacted to protect the District’s ability to serve students amid the ongoing Pennsylvania state budget impasse. While these actions are difficult, they are necessary to ensure the uninterrupted operation of our schools and the preservation of critical classroom services.
The prolonged delay in the passage of the Commonwealth’s 2025–2026 budget has placed all Pennsylvania school districts in a challenging position, forcing them to rely on reserves and local resources to maintain essential functions. The Board recognizes the strain that this uncertainty places on students, families, and staff and commends the District’s proactive steps to safeguard stability during this period. These actions reflect the shared commitment of the Board and the Administration to uphold the priorities of teaching, learning, and student well-being above all else. The Board urges state leaders to resolve the budget impasse swiftly so that critical education funding can flow to the Commonwealth’s school districts. We also encourage Pittsburgh residents, families, students, and staff to contact their state legislators and advocate for an immediate resolution that prioritizes students and protects public education.”
