ASTRO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which provides after-school care and enrichment for youth ages 5-13. Through comprehensive homework support, hands-on activities with limited screen time, nutritious meals, and reliable transportation, we provide at-risk youth with an environment that supports academic, social, and emotional development.
Childcare funding has long faced critical shortfalls, often placing quality services out of reach for families in need. Many of our families rely on CCAP (Child Care Assistance Program) support from DHS, though reimbursements cover only a fraction of the costs involved in delivering high-quality childcare. Therefore, we rely on community contributions to sustain and enhance our programs.
A closer look at the services we provide at ASTRO:
Each day consists of structured activities designed to promote social emotional growth, confidence, mental stimulation, and reduced screen time. We also proudly equip our staff with trauma-informed training, allowing us to be able to engage each child with individualized care, supported by an on-site clinician who offers therapeutic and interventional services. This additional support comes at no cost for any of the members enrolled in our program.
We also enjoy teaming up with community partners! We offer offsite classes to elementary and middle schools across the greater Providence area, as well as vocational training and internships to teens.
