Legacy Prep, the first charter school in Birmingham, Alabama, is dedicated to revolutionizing the educational experience for K-7 children in the community. Established in 2017 and serving students since 2019, we are committed to nurturing the social and emotional development of every student through our five Core Design Pillars. These pillars emphasize life-changing academics, authenticity, community support, revolutionary innovation, and a social justice lens.
The need for quality schools in our community is urgent. Shockingly, 75 out of the 206 "priority schools" receiving D or F ratings in 2023 are in the Birmingham City Schools district according to the Alabama State Department of Education.
This dire situation forces young people in Birmingham to either relocate to suburbs with higher quality schools, attend private schools (if they can afford it), or settle for underperforming neighborhood schools.
Legacy Prep is determined to change this narrative. In Northwest Birmingham, 97% of our students come from the immediate area. Throughout the academic year, we have surpassed all academic performance targets set by the Alabama Public Charter School Commission.
In our 2023-24 ACAP Reading Assessment Results, Legacy Prep Scholars demonstrated an impressive 93% overall reading proficiency. Additional funding will enable us to continue nurturing the next generation of leaders and change-makers.
Your support will help us further our academic mission and vision. The current elementary school building is overcrowded, with over 500 scholars enrolled for the 2024-25 school year. This funding will support our growing population and help raise funds for a new facility for our 4th to 8th-grade scholars.
It will also enable us to provide explicit career exploration instruction, including career panels, mentoring, and site visits that align with students’ career passions. Our objective is to expose students to various professions and assist them in narrowing down specific career paths. Your support will play a significant role in providing a better learning environment for our students.
