Mission Statement

Survivors Rising uplifts and amplifies the voices of survivors post-crisis and is a catalyst for individual and systems change through inclusive survivor and community engagement.

Supported Population

We focus on survivors and their allies of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and harassment, in the post-crisis phases. We highlight the voices of survivors who are overlooked, underrepresented, and unheard.

Process

All of our work is survivor-centric, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant.

We use advocacy and action as well as authentic community engagement and community-building as strategies to prevent interpersonal and sexual violence and abuse. We reimagine safety and justice from the survivor point of view. We foster prevention and intervention policies and practices that promote healing for survivors. And, we demand change and accountability of the systems and individuals that perpetuate the unequal power that results in subordination, exploitation, oppression, and abuse.

About Us

We are a survivor-led organization, tireless about elevating policies and practices that support survivors and advance their cause. We actively oppose subordination, exploitation, oppression, and abuse at the individual and systems levels. We recognize and respond to the need for education and action to break the stigma surrounding discussing these crimes and addressing them in the community. We work hand-in-glove with survivors in our network to expand leadership, provide hope and tools to transform lives, and promote engagement. We are a survivor-led organization with a Black and Brown led board of directors and 50% Black, survivor FTEs.

Guiding Principles

We actively support and promote ideas, policies, and best practices imbued with the following guiding principles:

Survivor-Centric: We prioritize the needs of survivors by respectfully honoring the social, emotional and political knowledge of survivors.

Culturally Relevant: Culturally responsive decision making is necessary in order to effectively support the needs of all survivors. Understanding and centering diverse cultural perspectives is essential.

Trauma-Informed: We promote and acknowledge the various ways individuals and their allies experience and express trauma as adaptive and natural.

Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppression, Equitable and Inclusive: We are committed to challenging systems and structures that sustain and perpetuate oppression.
