Navajo Oral History Project

Gathering of Tribes is launching a new project under our Seven Generations committee, which
seeks to connect Indigenous people to their ancestors and to future generations. This project will
conduct genealogical oral history interviews and document genealogical information in Dinétah (the
Navajo homeland).
Beginning in June 2025, our team will be conducting interviews with community elders in Diné
Bikeyah (Navajo Nation), documenting family relationships for future in-depth research by family
members. Interviewees will be provided a printed booklet with a pedigree chart and all the information
they share with our Oral History Specialists, as well as tips and best practices for continuing to
research and document their family relationships and histories. The information will also be added to
a database that will be free to access.
We are pleased to be able to perform this service for free for community members.
Gathering of Tribes is a Native-led 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Indigenous
people throughout North America and beyond. Our work includes organizing events in which Native
people can celebrate their heritage; producing uplifting media that centers Indigenous perspective
and experience; and providing meaningful service to tribal communities and individuals. We are
passionate about representing Indigenous interests and perspectives in cross-cultural relationships
and helping our beneficiaries find strength in their heritage, both personal and cultural.
