The Swanson Center
for Environmental Education and Climate Change Research
The Swanson Center is an extension and expansion of economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable programing that Mundo Sostenible has been building in recent years, including the development of solar arrays at orphanages, small rural schools, and clinics in rural Peru. The Swanson Center will be a community-led institution in the rural Andes of Peru dedicated to advancing climate resilience and social equity through education, research, and regenerative development. It will bridge top-level scientific research with indigenous Andean knowledge, fostering collaboration that respects local wisdom while introducing adaptive technologies and sustainable practices.
Peru’s Andean highlands face significant threats from climate change, including rapid glacier retreat, disrupted agricultural cycles, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity. These changes directly impact livelihoods, food security, and cultural continuity. Many rivers are polluted, migration from rural areas is increasing, and environmental education remains limited. The Swanson Center will address these challenges by connecting science with communities, fostering sustainable agriculture, and developing clean energy solutions. All this as we learn to integrate with local communities whose governance models are rooted in inclusion.
Through the development of our projects and programs, we look forward to inviting you to visit so you can experience the impact of your support.
