Since 1970, the Boston Hurricanes have been a driving force in Asian-American basketball, competing proudly in the North American Chinese Basketball Association (NACBA). Over the decades, our program has built a legacy—highlighted by the 2004 Elite Men’s Championship and the 2018 18U NACBA title—cementing our place in Boston’s basketball community. We continue to grow the game through year-round outreach programs that welcome players of all backgrounds and skill levels.

The launch of the Asian Basketball Championship of North America (ABCNA) has opened even more doors for high-level Asian competition. In 2019, our 12U team captured the ABCNA Regional Championship in New Jersey, showcasing the talent and potential within our program. Today, we remain committed participants in ABCNA events, expanding competitive opportunities and helping strengthen basketball communities across the Asian diaspora.

Registration and Guidelines for Consideration:

The registration fee is $20, with an additional processing fee.

Time & Financial Commitment

Playing for the Boston Hurricanes requires significant family commitment.
Multiple weeknights and weekends will be dedicated to practices, games, and tournaments.
Players must commit to the entire season once accepting a roster spot.
Families should expect to adjust personal plans and vacations around the season.

Attendance Requirements

All practices are mandatory.
Absences require a legitimate reason.
Coaches must be informed at least one week in advance of any planned absence.

Travel & Tournaments

Players must be available for out-of-state tournaments.
Event schedules may be announced with less than 30 days’ notice.
Families are responsible for their own travel, transportation, and hotel arrangements.
Carpooling and shared hotel rooms are encouraged to reduce costs.
Tournaments may last 1–2 days, and availability for the full duration is expected.

Parent Participation

Parents are key partners in creating a positive team experience.
Fundraising participation is asked to help support the program and offset costs.
Families may be asked to assist in events and host tournaments
Strong parent involvement keeps the program running smoothly.

Tournament Eligibility Requirements

Most partnered tournaments welcome players of Asian descent.
For NACBA Regional & National events:

Players must be at least 25% Chinese.
Original documents (passport, birth certificate, etc.) are required for verification.
