Dear Friends:

I’d like to share part of my parenting journey with you. I became a parent at 19 to my son, Tyson, and soon after welcomed my second son, Tyrone. By 2001, my daughter Serena Rose was born. During these years, I faced many pressures—from navigating public housing to overcoming the stigma surrounding young parenthood and finding few resources accessible to support my family’s stability and growth.

With the support of those who believed in me, I went from public housing to becoming a national advocate for families, working as a trainer and consultant to improve policies at state and federal levels. These experiences taught me the impact of community support and reinforced my commitment to addressing the root causes of these challenges so that all families have access to the resources they need to succeed.

This week, Children’s Trust honored me with their Frances J. Litman award celebrating my 20 years of work in the family support field. As a thank you to Children’s Trust for celebrating me, I am hoping to celebrate the work they do to support children and families with a fundraiser for them throughout the month of November.

Your contribution will go toward expanding the family support workforce, empowering parents and building strong communities for families to thrive. I am hoping to reach a goal of $20,000 total but every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to reducing these pressures on parents and creating a brighter future for every child.

Right now, I am matching gifts to this campaign up to the first $1,000 and another generous friend of the Children’s Trust is matching an additional $5,000 of giving through December 3 for a total match of $6,000 available.
