Research shows that expanding the maternal health workforce improves access to care, strengthens care coordination, and creates better experiences for families. Evidence also demonstrates that doula support is associated with lower cesarean birth rates, fewer preterm births, increased breastfeeding, and higher patient satisfaction. Community birth workers help bridge gaps in care by connecting families with prenatal education, resources, and ongoing support—particularly in underserved communities. Birth centers provide safe, evidence-based care for low-risk pregnancies while helping reduce unnecessary interventions and preserving hospital capacity for higher-risk births.
