Queer history is American history. From the Revolution to the Civil Rights movement, the Gold Rush to the Stonewall Riots, LGBTQ+ narratives are woven into each chapter of our nation’s story, with Queer figures at the forefront of the moments that shaped America. And, just as fabric unspools when its threads are severed, our understanding of our history is incomplete whenever Queer stories are silenced and erased.

Amidst widespread censorship, and state and federal efforts to restrict LGBTQ+-inclusive curriculum, we’re weaving Queer voices back into our nation’s history. Through “The Past Is Always Present,” History UnErased is collaborating with The Library of Congress, NYC’s Houses on the Moon Theater Company, and partner schools across the country to develop and produce an original play with music that brings to life powerful LGBTQ+ stories that have been left out of U.S. history education.

Designed for high school stage productions, and paired with an educational curriculum and digitized classroom materials, "The Past Is Always Present" illustrates a broader and more accurate reflection of America, ensuring LGBTQ+ contributions to our history are seen, heard, and passed on for future generations.
