Founded in 2017, Providence (PVD) Promise is a small nonprofit located in Providence, RI that supports the post-secondary aspirations of Providence Public School and Charter School students. PVD Promise is revolutionizing how local families plan and save for higher education with a unique, multi-pronged, and whole-student approach. PVD Promise partners with families to help them open 529 college savings accounts (CSAs) for each child in the household and provides $100 in seed funding to each new account, offers a robust incentive program in which enrolled students can earn up to $250 per month towards their college savings, and provides supplemental Family and Youth Engagement programming that is multidisciplinary, community-responsive, and bilingual in English and Spanish. Currently, there are nearly 1,300 students enrolled from 700 families who collectively hold $2.85M toward their educational futures. Last fiscal year (June - July), PVD Promise facilitated over 104 workshops, events and meetings for 3,200+ participants (one-third of which was with community partners)- plus hundreds of individual mentorship, advising and case management meetings- and provided $168,000 in incentive awards directly to students CSAs.

PVD Promise has more than tripled in size since 2019 to support our rapid growth, currently maintaining a 6-person staff and a $920,000 operating budget. We expect this trend to continue as we work hard to keep up with the significant, local demand for our services.
