I am who I am today #becauseof the women who raised me. My mother and my grandmother, are completely different human beings; they both have their own brands of fierceness which they passed on to me and my siblings, and to my own children. My grandmother taught me that just because something "is" doesn't mean that it "should be", it's ok to ask questions and think outside of the box to resolve things. My mother taught me how to choose my battles, how to be an advocate, how to work hard. They both showed me how to use my voice, that words matter, being a good person matters. I wouldn't be who I am today, I would not love or advocate for people the way I do, without their unwavering love and guidance.
Part of why I love working at The Family Center is our emphasis on the future, but also understanding that our beginnings shape us in undeniable ways. Every day we are finding new ways to support families in all their origins and designs, to help their children become more resilient and strong in who they are. I hope you will join us in our mission to create a more resilient world! Thank you.
