Nicholas and Shacreya Lee, co-founders of The Brave Foundation, turned profound pain into purpose after welcoming two micro-preemies in consecutive years—2022 and 2023—each born weighing just one pound. Through the unimaginable challenges of the NICU, their journey ignited a mission to ensure no family walks that road alone.

Today, The Brave Foundation supports NICU families through compassionate parent-to-parent mentoring, practical NICU guidance rooted in lived experience, and the Brave Box Project—an intentionally curated care package designed to nurture hope, resilience, and bravery while providing essential items parents need during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.

Through advocacy, connection, and tangible support, The Brave Foundation is transforming lived trauma into a powerful source of comfort and strength for families across our community.

Every Brave Box is intentionally curated with care, lived experience, and guidance from someone who has personally walked the NICU journey. These boxes are not random collections of items—they are thoughtfully assembled resources designed to bring both emotional comfort and practical support to families navigating one of the most overwhelming seasons of their lives.

Each Brave Box is valued at roughly $80 and may include:

• A personal book by Shacreya Lee (to be included once completed) – a playful family book, that  helps readers walk through what navigating the NICU can truly look like, written from lived experience. Once finalized, this book will become a cornerstone piece inside every box.

• A practical Q&A resource – created to empower parents with meaningful questions they can take directly to their baby’s medical team and nurses.

• Personal mentoring insights – guidance on navigating unexpected challenges such as returning to work, advocating for your baby, processing trauma, and finding your footing in survival mode.

• Hand-selected comfort gifts – thoughtful items chosen to remind families they are seen, supported, and never alone.

• A $25 fuel gift card – helping offset the very real cost of daily hospital travel.

Each Brave Box represents more than its dollar value. It carries encouragement, advocacy tools, faith, and tangible relief for families enduring long days and uncertain nights in the NICU.
