At Below Sea Level Aid, mutual aid isn’t a concept, it’s how we take care of each other.

We’re raising money to keep doing mutual aid in New Orleans.

Every week, we’re out across the city connecting with people who need support. Folks dealing with homelessness, reentry, poverty, and everything that comes with trying to get through the day without enough resources.

The needs aren’t complicated, but they are constant. Food. Water. Hygiene supplies. Bus passes. Help replacing an ID. Harm reduction supplies. Most of the time, there isn’t a system that can respond quickly enough or at all. That’s where mutual aid comes in.

We don’t do applications or long intake processes. We don’t ask people to prove anything. If someone needs something and we have it, we give it.

This fundraiser helps us keep doing that.

Through our programs, we provide:

Food, water, and basic necessities
Hygiene kits and clothing
Rental and utility assistance
Bus passes and transportation support
Harm reduction supplies and overdose prevention resources
Assistance with IDs, documents, and reentry needs
Linkage to care, testing, and community-based services

Unrestricted mutual aid funding allows us to respond without delays, approvals, or limitations.

The people we serve are often excluded from traditional systems due to:

System overload and underfunding
