What the heck is THE SPEED PROJECT?

According to Runner's World Magazine, 'The Speed Project has a reputation for being one of the hardest – and most secretive – relay races in the world. Starting at the Santa Monica Pier and ending at the Las Vegas welcome sign, this 340-mile relay features teams of runners (each runner completes about 50 miles over two days). There is no official race website or official set of rules or regulations.'

It not only sounds insane. It pretty much is. And that's exactly why we're doing it.

We're a team of financial professionals — venture capitalists, pension fund managers, endowment directors, and sovereign wealth allocators. We don't typically do things like this. That's what makes it extra crazy. And if we were going to do something this hard, we decided we had to make it mean something.

What is the MIT SLOAN PRISON EDUCATION INITIATIVE?

MIT Sloan Prison Education Initiative (Sloan PEI) - Created and launched by our team captain, Daniel Dart, Sloan PEI provides business and finance (Intro to Entrepreneurship, Consumer Mathematics, and Financial Literacy) classes to incarcerated men and women in Massachusetts jails and prisons. They are led and taught by current MIT MBA students. The program is partnered with MIT's Educational Justice Institute (TEJI). And why partner with Sloan PEI? Well, because it hits close to home for Daniel as the first formerly incarcerated student to attend the MIT Sloan School of Management. Daniel co-founded Sloan’s Prison Education Initiative to help others follow the path he has paved: one that leads to freedom and hope. The path this team will run follows the path created by the Initiative, demonstrating that, through individual grit and communal support, the wildest of dreams are possible.

Where will the money go, and how will it be used?

Great question! All money - minus platform and admin fees - will be used to support the MIT Sloan program and it's partners.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes! Every red cent you contribute is tax-deductible. This project is fiscally sponsored by Indispensable, a 501c3 organization registered with the IRS. Donations to this project are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Woo-hoo!
