The animal shelter system was built around a central facility where dogs wait to be reclaimed, adopted or transferred. For too many dogs, that wait means noise, isolation, prolonged confinement and stress.

The Unsheltered Project is working toward a more humane model: one that helps dogs stay out of shelters when possible and gives those who need temporary care better options than a long stay in a kennel.

Imagine a connected network of foster homes, small and quiet spaces, boarding and training partners, owner support, and faster paths to adoption. No single solution will work for every dog or every community. But we can start building and sharing practical alternatives.

Your donation supports that work. It helps us test approaches, support dogs through community partnerships, and bring the lessons into a wider conversation about how animal sheltering can change.

Help us build a system centered on wellbeing, not confinement.

Gifts support The Unsheltered Project’s mission wherever the need is greatest. The Unsheltered Project, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations may be tax-deductible as allowed by law.
