Empowering Black Families = Empowering the Community

We are a community organization focused on the restoration of the African American family unit. Through education and sharing of resources, we specialize in teaching the African American community to create a healthy work/life balance through creative expression, physical and mental health, and financial literacy.

Your TAX-EXEMPT donations will help us tremendously in securing the resources needed to reach more African American families in the city of San Antonio with all the programs we have to offer. While we search for a space to house all our programs in one location (music lessons, fitness classes, financial literacy, creative writing workshops, poetry events, business and leadership training, food safety credentialing, and more), we won't let that stop us from pouring into the community. 

Our first event, An Afternoon Poetry Set for the Youth, was a huge success with 11 local poets showing up to speak and support the 5 students from our creative writing workshop reading their poetry in front of an audience of over 50 people for the first time. We had a packed house, and the community was asking for more. We certainly can't wait to give it to them. With your continued support, we know we can make that happen.

Our next event is our first annual MAAFA Kuheshimu event, honoring the ancestors of the middle passage on October 12, 2024. 

Maafa, the Swahili word for “great disaster” or “great tragedy,” refers to the 400+ years of enslavement and murder of millions of Africans and the lasting impacts on African Peoples and descendants of the enslaved.

We present this program, full of storytelling, cultural performances, face painting, African doll making, and community connections as a way to honor our ancestors who died during the passage and those who survived these tragedies.
