And so many other questions that are constantly swirling in our minds as we navigate the changes the past 5 years have brought.

Who imagined we would ever be facing a loneliness epidemic on top of everything else?!

So, what are we going to do about it?

Well.

Tenth House has been working the past two years developing and testing programming to combat the many isolation-driven problems we are now facing. This work has been impactful, and we are excited to grow and expand our ability to serve our community.

Tenth House is embarking on the journey to become a nonprofit organization and would love your support on the way.

Tenth House is committed to building a global network of intentional, in-person community centering women and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Through curated programming, we foster low-pressure environments that support the development of authentic relationships and sustained networks of care.

Our work is grounded in a response to the loneliness epidemic, which disproportionately impacts communities living at the intersections of race, gender, and queerness. We recognize that systemic marginalization intensifies social disconnection, and we position community-building as both a healing practice and a form of structural resistance. Our vision is to continue to facilitate spaces where individuals feel seen, affirmed, and supported simply for existing as they are, and to nurture expansive networks of friendship and solidarity across geographies. We aim to develop a replicable framework to support community-building facilitation globally.

What we know:

Loneliness can be as detrimental to health as smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day.
It increases the risk of heart disease by 29% and stroke by 32%.
It raises the risk of developing dementia by over 50% in older adults.
Chronic loneliness can contribute to mental health issues like depression and anxiety.
It is linked to a significantly increased risk of premature death from all causes.

Here is how this fundraiser will support us:

Secure a nonprofit designation and cover legal and administrative costs for incorporation.
Transition programming to free or low-cost models, increasing accessibility and inclusivity
Hire a grant writer to grow funding opportunities and move closer to securing a physical home for the community.

Uplift 2026 Programming
Provide operational support for staffing, materials, and community development needs
Developing an assistance grant for laid-off/underemployed folks. Isolation increases with financial insecurity.

What we have done so far:

Produced intentional programming across New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, cultivating spaces for connection.
- - Golden Hour - An intimate in-person gathering offering a bouquet bar, sober alternatives, and even free plants during our collab with FreePlantsWorld.
  - Sweet Life - A connection-centered happy hour offering engaging interaction points like live art, crafts, games, and music.
  - An event at Nyla House centered around two of our favorite things (matcha and books) for an engaging book swap.
  - We’ve also partnered with like-minded organizations to support their programming.
Grown to a thriving network of 224 members.
Facilitated dozens of new, meaningful relationships through shared experiences.
Collaborated with aligned brand partners such as The Travel Agency, De Soi, Brez, The New Bar, and Shadonis.Shop to create immersive and value-driven experiences.
Partnered with mission-aligned organizations and collectives like Studio 1514 and FreePlantsWorld to deepen our local impact and expand access to community programming.

Now more than ever, convening is critical for our collective healing and ability to continue through challenges we never imagined. We are human, and nothing can take the place of human connection. Community spaces and access to wellness programming are critical for the communities we serve. Your support allows us to continue building sustainable, affirming spaces that nurture belonging and connection.

We are asking for contributions of $25-$50 to move our goal forward, but we are grateful for all support.

Once the non-profit designation is official, we will send out a notice that your contribution is now eligible for a tax deduction.
