Emergency Update

Hey Y'all,

Jason here. Last month Alex was admitted to a hospital who promised to find her either a nursing home or a physical rehab center so that she could get better and live in safety. Unfortunately, today that hospital broke their promise and may have broken the law. Without any new evidence, They changed Alex's status and said that she can take care of herself despite not being able to walk and not being able to stand up without assistance from her wheelchair. She cannot cook or clean, she can't put on most types of clothes except sweats.

These things don't matter to the hospital who just wants to free up the hospital bed. Unfortunately Alex does not have the funds at this moment to get an ADA accessible apartment and has not received the evaluation for home aids which is vital if she is going to live on her own.

It appears they're going to release her to homeless shelter rather than to a nursing home or assisted living facility. This is beyond atrocious and probably illegal. However that doesn't matter, in the immediate we need to secure funds to house Alex permanently.

Hey wonderful people,

We finally found an apartment that is completely ADA compliant. However, our funds are pretty much dried out due to the lengthy hotel stay.

We need to raise another 2500 to cover the security deposit and other costs for moving in. We have until 8/18 to meet our goal. Please help us get to our goal. This is the last leg on a long journey and we can only get there with your help.

6/25 Update

Readjusted the goal a bit after looking at expenses over the past 30 days. Due to having to go to additional appointments, pay for medications I previously didn't have to pay for, and other unforeseen expenses, we had to increase the goal.

Right now My biggest expenses my temporary housing since I have been unable to find someone in DC who can house me temporarily due to my particular needs as a wheelchair bound individual with Cerebral Palsy.( That being said please reach out to me on Twitter or to Jason (@Jasonrcharter) if you live in the DMV area and think you can house me for the next 3 to 4 weeks while I finalize permanent housing. This would dramatically decrease my weekly costs by ~$900).

Thank you so much for your support since the beginning of my journey. Now that I am reaching the end of this chapter I cannot begin to explain the amount of feelings that I have when I look at how many people care about my survival. Especially, since most the time I have imposter syndrome and feel like I don't deserve the support of all you amazing people. However, thanks to the love and support I have received from not only my chosen family, but all of you I can finally accept it.

I hope you continue to support me and The Queer Liberation front in the future, as I am just one of many who need to escape the place they are living because they are Queer. We keep us safe!

6/16 Update

While things are moving in the right direction, the only barrier stopping me from getting my own place is the amount of cash I have on hand. If we can have another week like we did this week then I will have no problems securing housing.

Also, If anyone knows of someone in the DMV area who can house me for the next few weeks while I sign a lease please DM me or @Queerliberati0n on Twitter. Just keep in mind I am wheelchair bound and cannot walk up stairs. However, This would greatly reduce daily costs as well as reduce the total amount of money needed to be raised.

Thank you all again for your support! This journey has been a roller coaster but I am so happy that we are hearing the end of the ride. I can't wait for this chapter to be over and from you start my new one.

6/12 Update

Hi everyone,

This is Jason and I am here to give an unusual update. I am very happy to have dedicated my time to ensure Alex succeeds in life. However, over the past 60 days It has extremely affected my business and my ability to make money causing me to not be able to pay my bills. Alex has agreed to increase her donation goal by 500 so that I can have enough money to pay things for like my oil change which is needed so Alex has transportation as well as other essential things I need so I can take care of Alex.

Your support has never been more important and we appreciate everything y'all have already done.

I know we can reach our goal before July 1. I have never seen Alex so full of life and hope. Please help me continue to ensure Alex lives the life where she can be the amazing person she has become without fear.

6/10 Update:

Unfortunately, we had to increase our goal due to costs associated with saying at a hotel and not reaching our original goal soon enough. We need to reach our goal by the end of the month or living costs will be too great and Alex will end up homeless.

5/31 Update: Urgent

Hello everyone,

First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt thanks for all the support I've received. It has been pivotal in helping me escape the oppressive conditions I faced in Florida and has allowed me to live authentically these past few months. However, the costs of my stay in a mental health facility and subsequent living expenses in a DC hotel have significantly drained my funds.

Currently, I'm facing a critical financial situation; my remaining funds will only cover less than a month's expenses in my current setup. Despite our best efforts, the expenses have consistently outpaced the donations, and I'm now at a point where I must carefully consider each dollar spent to make the most of the generous support provided. The stress of unstable housing and the challenges of my transition have been overwhelming, contributing to severe mental distress.

I am in a dire need to secure more stable and long-term solutions to ensure my safety and well-being. Unfortunately, the situation is further complicated by my family's actions. My mother has intensified her efforts to undermine my independence to the extent that I am exploring legal options like obtaining a restraining order. There's also a looming threat from my father, whose past abuse nearly ended my life. We've reached a point where there's no possibility of turning back, only moving forward to ensure my safety. As we look to the future, my health needs are also growing. I urgently need to consult with physical and occupational therapists and a neurologist to manage my conditions effectively.

Hello Everyone,

Alex here. I apologize for the delay in updating you; after spending 21 days in a mental health inpatient facility, it took some time to readjust to the outside world.

As you might recall, last March, I made the tough decision to leave Florida to seek a safer life in DC. I escaped a Christian group home where my family left me, a place where I had to hide who I am due to the homophobic attitudes of the staff. They treated me as though my mother still had legal control over my life, stripping me of my rights and freedoms.

Arriving in DC felt liberating. For the first time, no one dictated how I should look or act. I could express myself freely—changing my hair, dressing as I choose, and exploring gender-affirming care, all of which had been unattainable due to the transphobic nature of my previous environment. However, this new beginning wasn't without its challenges. The bureaucratic maze made it nearly impossible to transfer my Medicaid to DC, critically delaying my access to necessary medical care.

Moreover, my lack of credit history made securing an apartment a significant hurdle, forcing me to incur steep hotel fees. Eventually, the stress overwhelmed me. When my medication ran out, I suffered a severe mental breakdown. With a friend’s assistance, I checked into a mental health facility, hoping to expedite my Medicaid transfer and secure temporary housing. Unfortunately, the facility initially coordinated with my manipulative mother, who tried to place me in the same town as my abusive transphobic father. It was a devastating setback.

After nearly two weeks of advocacy and with the support of legal counsel, I redirected the facility to work with my chosen family, Jason. Despite this, my time at the facility was marred by constant misgendering, deadnaming, and a pervasive feeling of unsafety. Although I eventually secured Medicaid in the DC area, the facility failed to find me a suitable living arrangement, and I had to leave as the facility began to echo the environments I've fought so hard to escape.

I am now temporarily back in a hotel, but fortunately, a supportive comrade has agreed to co-sign a lease, helping me search for permanent housing. However, the costs associated with my escape from Florida—such as temporary housing, clothing, food, and other necessities—have left me financially strained. I urgently need to raise funds to secure stable housing, continue my gender-affirming care, cover legal fees for protection against my family and for changing my name, among other expenses. Without this support, I risk homelessness or worse—falling back into the hands of my abusive family. This is especially dangerous as a Trans woman with Cerebral Palsy.

Hello, I’m Alex.

Last March, I made a pivotal decision to leave Florida and relocate to Washington D.C., seeking a safer environment where I could live openly as a trans person, free from the fear of harm, loss of medical care, or homelessness. Additionally, I face the daily challenges of living with cerebral palsy.

Upon arrival in D.C., I was immediately overwhelmed. Transitioning here involved navigating a maze of bureaucratic hurdles, especially in transferring essential services like Medicaid without a real home address. Moreover, my lack of credit history—compounded by my future roommate’s poor credit—has forced me to resort to hotel accommodations, costing nearly $3,000 a month(at the cheapest hotel that had wheelchair accessible rooms within 50 miles of D.C.).

By mid-April, my situation became dire. I ran out of medication, my funds were depleting rapidly, and without D.C. Medicaid, I could not access the medical care I needed. An initial visit to the ER offered only temporary relief, with no long-term guidance, pushing me to a breaking point. On April 21st, feeling overwhelmed, I admitted myself into a mental health inpatient facility. Instead of supporting my chosen network, the facility’s staff would only coordinate with my manipulative mother, who tried to force me into an unsafe living arrangement with my transphobic grandmother and a few miles from my physically and sexually abusive father. Thankfully, after a week of intense advocacy, legal interventions, and support from friends and a local congressman, I regained control of my healthcare decisions.

The looming threat of my family attempting to gain guardianship over me, exploiting my trans identity and disability, continues to add immense pressure. Additionally, the facility’s restrictive environment proved too much, and without a temporary housing solution like a group home or rehab facility forthcoming, I am preparing to leave. This Monday, I may have no choice but to check out and face these challenges with just the support of my friends.

My immediate goal is to secure a case manager who can assist me in finding temporary accommodations at a group home or in-patient physical rehabilitation facility while I plan more permanent arrangements. Unfortunately, finding someone with a wheelchair-accessible home who can house me temporarily has proven nearly impossible, forcing me to continue living out of a hotel room.

I urgently need your support to cover upcoming rent, temporary hotel stays, essential medical care including physical therapy and gender-affirming treatments, legal fees, and basic living necessities. Your support is more than just assistance; it is a crucial lifeline that will provide the stability and safety I desperately need during this pivotal period.
