Most children in foster care are NOT there because of abuse or abandonment, but due to solvable issues exacerbated by poverty and lack of community support. These preventable and unnecessary separations not only cause deep emotional trauma and scars on children and parents alike, but also incur significant taxpayer cost ($32,000 average a year to keep ONE child in foster care in Georgia)!

Together with Families (TwF), a local nonprofit, has tirelessly operated in Cobb County from basements and churches, addressing solvable issues that lead children into foster care.

NOW we are asking you to join us and support the launch of a TwF Empowerment Hub!

Centralizing Operations: We need your help to move from scattered locations to a central Empowerment Hub in Cobb County to reach families and allow volunteers to serve more effectively and efficiently.

Preventing Family Separation: The Hub will provide critical essentials like food, clothing, baby supplies, hygiene and other basic needs. We will continue to provide coaching, navigation of systems and resources, guidance, and community to families struggling with poverty and a crisis, crucial in preventing foster care placements and helping families move themselves from crisis to calm.

Facilitating Healing and Empowerment: The Hub will be a safe space for therapy, support groups, and community building, and empowering past beneficiaries to be leaders and community builders. Together with Families doesn’t want to leave anyone where they started. We want to give every family the tools they need to change their own lives. Our efforts are focused on providing deep, lasting solutions rather than temporary fixes for families in their time of need.

"My name is DeAsia and I’m 20 years old. I grew up in foster care and eventually I aged out. It wasn’t easy and a lot of people in my life had given up on me leaving me to fend for myself at a very young age. I didn’t feel like anyone was genuine and my biggest fear was having my kids' become victims of the system just like I was. I came to Together with Families with nothing, but hope for the better. I was in a rough spot, where me and my kids were experiencing homelessness. I spoke to Sarah and one of the first things she reassured me about was that their motive was to prevent kids from becoming victims of the system. She helped me to find the steps it would take to meet my goals. The team with my parent ally Jessica made me feel safe enough to be open and vulnerable, and reassured me that they were going to do everything in their power to make sure me and my children wouldn’t have to be in that situation ever again. And long behold they did just that. The Together with Families team helped me accomplish things I felt like I’d never have the chance to and now I am in my first apartment safe with my children and forever grateful."
