Suicide is a workplace safety issue.

More workers are lost to suicide than workplace incidents in many high-risk industries. If we treat safety seriously, suicide intervention has to be part of the safety toolkit.

Self-Rescue Is Not for Suicide (SRINS) provides practical, peer-based suicide intervention training for high-risk workforces and rural communities across North Dakota. We focus on teaching everyday people—coworkers, supervisors, friends, and family members—how to recognize warning signs, start the conversation, and step in early.

Train 400 Campaign: Blue-Collar Suicide Prevention Training

At the North Dakota Safety Council safety conference, we’re launching a simple, measurable goal:

Raise $30,000 to train 400 workers in suicide intervention skills at no cost to participants.
That works out to $75 per training seat.

Why “400 trained” matters

People don’t get supported by “the public.” They get supported by the small circle that actually knows them. Most of us have about 5 people we’re close enough with to lean on in hard times, and up to 15 people in our trusted circle.

That's why training 400 workers creates a ripple effect:
400 trained workers × 5–15 close connections = 2,000–6,000 people reached across the Northwest oilfield and blue-collar communities—by normalizing the conversation, reducing stigma, and putting practical skills inside real-world relationships.

What this campaign funds (direct impact)

Funds raised through this campaign directly support:

Suicide intervention training for workers and community members (free to participants)
Outreach to rural, oilfield, veteran, and other high-risk populations
Program delivery, coordination, and reporting so the training reaches the right places and we can measure progress
