At Sole Hope, we meet children who can’t walk, play, or sleep because of a parasite most people have never heard of.

They’re called jiggers. These devastating sand fleas burrow into the feet, lay eggs, and multiply rapidly. One child might have hundreds embedded in their skin. In the worst cases, we’ve seen more than 5,000. The result is severe pain, swelling, open wounds, and infection. Many children are rejected by their communities or thought to be cursed.

But the pain isn’t just physical. It’s emotional too. Children with jiggers often stop attending school, playing with friends, or even smiling.

That’s where the D. Gary Young Hope Center comes in.

This special place in Uganda is where the most severe cases come to receive treatment and healing. Children stay for two weeks or more. They receive comprehensive medical care, mental health support, nourishing meals, clean clothing, and custom-made shoes tailored just for them. They experience community, dignity, and love, some for the first time in their lives.

We have the space to treat up to 60 children at a time, but two-thirds of the beds sit empty.

Not because there’s a lack of need.
But because we don’t yet have the funding to care for more children, provide more staff, and purchase more supplies.

That’s why we’ve launched this two-week sprint.
