Our Mission:

This year, Safe Place is on track to serve around 150+ alleged victims of sexual assault, physical violence and related concerns. While our Special Investigations Unit works hard to investigate allegations, we are working to create a mental health team for the healing process.

We are hoping to raise $12,000 this year to launch two therapy groups: for our kids (11-17) and caregivers that support them.

Kids Group: We have recruited a licensed therapist with over 25 years of relevant experience in our community who will meet with referred kids every other week until their treatment needs are met. This group will serve kids that have experienced sexual abuse, exploitation, exposure to violence/sex crimes, and those that are vulnerable due to similar circumstances.

Too often, alleged victims hear that they need to get over it. While the crimes against our kids vary, the primary purpose is to help them establish a sense of camaraderie and connection that will facilitate their growth and development. We aim to increase their emotional, mental, social and spiritual insights and skills sets, to promote the intended success of their futures. We believe that this program is the first step for them on the road to recovery: to feel heard, seen, validated, and to know they are not alone. To return to a sense of self that doesn't feel dirty or ashamed. To know that they are loved and worth loving. To know that the fault of their situations does not reside with them in any way. And most importantly, to know that there is hope. Each child has the power inside of them, to heal and to change their world and the world around them. To triumph over trauma.

Caregiver Group: Simultaneously, we have identified a licensed social worker that is willing to conduct group therapy for our caregivers. Many parents and caregivers don't understand how to process what their child has been through and how to help them. They struggle to process their own vicarious trauma from their child's experience, to offer support and safe feedback. To put their children first and put their own thoughts with our clinician. All research indicates that the most successful children are those that are supported and loved during their recovery process. We aim to strengthen children's support networks, helping our adults heal, to help heal our children.

Any dollars that surpass our goal for these two groups will fuel a third group for adult survivors!
