Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Theta Rho Omega Chapter
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® (AKA), an international service organization, was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® is comprised of more than 355,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 12 countries, currently led by International President & CEO Danette Anthony Reed.
Theta Rho Omega Chapter was chartered by 17 college educated women on November 17, 1968 in Markham, IL - the first South Suburban chapter to be chartered in the area. Now with nearly 100 graduate members, the chapter carries out the sorority’s international platform of ‘Soaring to Greater Heights of Sisterhood and Service’, through community programming and providing scholarships focused on five program initiatives: Empower Our Families, Build Our Economic Wealth, Enhance Our Environment, Advocate for Social Justice and Uplift Our Local Community.
