The 5:30 Tribe

The Maasai tribe, a semi-nomadic ethnic group inhabiting Kenya and Tanzania, holds a deep reverence for children. This sentiment is reflected in their traditional greeting, "Kasserian Ingera?" which translates to "How are the children?" This unique salutation underscores the profound importance of children within the Maasai culture, serving as a measure of the community's overall health and well-being.

This greeting is not merely a formality but a reflection of the Maasai's collective mindset. It embodies the belief that the well-being of the children is a direct indicator of the community's health, stability, and prosperity. Inquiring about the children first signifies that they are at the heart of the tribe's concerns and priorities. If the response is positive, it suggests that the community is thriving and its future is secure.

The importance of this greeting in Maasai culture extends beyond daily interactions; it is a constant reminder of the community's responsibility to nurture, protect, and educate the younger generation. It reinforces the idea that children are not only the most vulnerable members of the community but also their most precious resource. By ensuring the health and happiness of the children, the Maasai are safeguarding the continuity of their traditions, values, and way of life.

In a broader sense, this greeting highlights the interconnectedness of all members of the Maasai tribe. It serves as a cultural cornerstone, emphasizing mutual care and collective responsibility. The question, "How are the children?" is a call to action, encouraging every community member to contribute to the well-being of the young, thus ensuring the tribe's enduring strength and resilience.

Kasserian Ingera is the foundation on which we have built The 5:30 Scholars. Our young scholars are in the nation's top 5% of scholars. They are prepared to excel academically and are trained in the growth mindset necessary to be the future leaders of our community. We have accomplished this through two primary methods: Our Genius League, where we have taught over 7000 students to compete academically, and Black Ivy, our college readiness program, where our students train to score perfectly on the ACT and SAT and have earned over 5.2 million dollars since 2020.

We need your support to continue our amazing work. True to the Maasai tradition, we have four leadership levels.

Junior Warrior $5.30 per month

Senior Warrior $25.30 per month

Junior Elder $45.30 per month

Elder $85.30 per month
