The AEG Chicago 24Q3 Stakeholder Challenge identified a critical obstacle for equitable grid modernization: the lack of visualization and alignment of key community and utility energy plans. This gap hampers understanding of how different plans influence each other, hindering efforts to meet climate, health, and equity goals. Stakeholders emphasized collaboration, workforce training, and reducing barriers to adoption.

Participants agreed to prioritize the above obstacles around the statement provided by Julieta Giraldez, Director of Integrated Grid Planning, EPE.

“Regarding grid modernization, to achieve Chicagoland’s climate, health and equity goals, a critical obstacle to collectively overcome in 12 months is: the lack of visualization of key community and utility energy and infrastructure related plans to better understand how they influence each other and create alignment on grid mod needs.

Funds will be used for but not limited to the following activities:

Supervision and staffing for 2 graduate students to serve as Carbon League Fellows to support the task force work.
GIS Mapping and data management for the community dashboard prototype
Costs for convening and facilitation.
