Our Purpose

Plumfield Children's Library is a private lending library located in Youngsville, North Carolina. Plumfield exists to provide wholesome books for children ages 0-teen in the greater Raleigh / Wake Forest area*. Our collection consists of books which emphasize truth, goodness, and beauty, and we aim to provide an environment in which parents can safely allow their children to browse, without fear that they will come across inappropriate content.

Plumfield is open to families within driving distance of Youngsville, and is not limited* to families in specific towns or counties.

Our Story

Plumfield was started in 2023 by Season Bos, a children's librarian and bookseller with over ten years of experience. With her husband, she homeschooled their three daughters for nearly a decade. She has a passion for connecting families to excellent children's literature, and opened Plumfield with an eye to helping parents find age-appropriate, wholesome books for their children. All of the members of the Bos family have a great love for good books, and Plumfield is a family endeavor.

We are also part of a growing network of like-minded private librarians across the country and in other parts of the world.

Our Offerings

Plumfield already offers many, many wonderful books that cannot be found in the local public library systems, including out of print classics and living books. We also carry family-friendly DVD's, audiobooks, and (coming soon) vintage children's magazines. View our current (ever-growing) catalog.

We plan to dedicate 25-30 shelves to educational manipulatives in a variety of subjects, available to all of our patrons and of particular interest to homeschoolers, when we open our new space. (See examples on our Amazon Wishlist, noted as "Able to be checked out".)

We also plan to offer in-person programs for our patrons in Plumfield's new space, such as storytimes, family movie nights, homeschool classes, book clubs, craft clubs, board game days, summer reading rewards, and more.

Our Goals

To grow the Plumfield Children's Library collection to 20,000 wholesome books and educational materials for children, and
To offer a warm and welcoming space for in-person browsing and checkout.

We Need You

To meet our goals, we need your help. We are in the construction phase of putting up walls, carpet, and shelving to make the in-person Plumfield space a reality. Thus far, Plumfield has been open only for porch pickup; we are eager to welcome families to a 400 sq. ft. library experience! Once Plumfield is in this new space, we will also expand our hours, catalog, and programming.
