It all started with a dream….

Ten years ago, my best friend, magic consultant and magic mentor Dane Howick approached me with an idea that he had for a lifelong dream and wanted to try to bring to life. It turned out that that dream was to open a brick-and-mortar magic shop. I thought that this was a great idea since I had always wanted to open a performance venue for magicians. Together, we started to plan to create a combined magic shop and theater and how we wanted to run it.

Little did I know that ten years later, Dane would not be here to see his dream fulfilled. On August 11, 2023, my friend and partner in magic, Dane Howick passed away.

Over the past year since Dane’s passing, the thought of the shop and theater has been in the back of my mind, on how to proceed. I and my new partner Christa, decided to honor Dane’s memory and continue with finding a building that would be suitable for the shop and theater, Find backers, sponsors and donations for this venture.

We have named the magic shop UnderLand Magic and the theater’s named The Looking Glass Theater. Our goal is to have the shop setup in an Alice in Wonderland Themed experience. The public will enter the magic shop through the front doors, but the is much more than meets the eye in the shop, the shop itself is a large illusion. If there is a performance, the patrons will approach a large full body mirror and have to say a secret password and just as Alice walked through the mirror, the mirror will open and the patrons will enter The Looking Glass Theater much like the Speakeasies of the past, for Family entertainment.

Our plan is to have Magicians, family friendly comics and community theater perform at our venue, since this is a family friendly entertainment venue, it will be a dry magic and comedy venue, with light snacks and sodas served. The Performance venue can also be rented out for corporate meeting and events ( although any parties or meetings that take place will need to have a third-party catering service since kitchens will not be available at the venue).

With the plans that we have, to bring Family Friendly Entertainment to Tooele City and County, it is an expensive endeavor. So, we are turning to you the public and future customers to help us raise funds so that we can bring Dane’s dream into fruition. As stated previously We are looking for Backers, Sponsors and donations to help us get into a physical location.

There will be several ways to help, and every dollar helps. We will have Donation boxes setup at various locations throughout Grantsville and Tooele, this GiveButter campaign, and The Magic of Craig Campbell will be having performances dedicated to fund raising efforts throughout the county.

For Sponsors and Donors that donate a significant amount we will have a sponsorship board in the Magic Shop that will be posted thanking those names and companies.

We are still in the process of putting together a Sponsorship package that will have perks for donating significant amounts. Such as possible T-Shirts and discounts for the venue.

Help us Bring this Dream into Reality and Many thanks to those that Donate and those that have help so far, such as Valerie Didericksen owner of The Way Station in Grantsville Utah for allowing us to place a donation box in her establishment and Candi Hall Owner of The Outpost in Grantsville for allowing a donation box and providing a performance area for fundraising shows twice a month for 3 months.
