Undocumented Women’s Fund is a skill-sharing, mutual aid, and resource mobilization project in NYC that assesses the needs of the undocumented community through a gender-aware lens, mobilizes resources to meet those needs, and collectively tackles barriers to access. Founded in 2020 to organize with women who were excluded from government support at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we provide support to women who are the heads of their household and foster a collective care network meant to serve as a platform for organizing for our rights.
UWF works towards four main goals:
- Developing a left feminist discourse about labor, gender and immigration as intersecting struggles;
- Building a care, collective learning, and organizing network––aka “Comadre network”––to help meet the needs of undocumented women and their families;
- Co-producing systematic knowledge and data about our communities' needs and exclusion factors through Participatory Research Action methods;
- Fostering peer to peer organizing, resource navigation and popular educational initiatives among undocumented and immigrant women and girls.
UWF’s work supporting low-income immigrant women and their families as they navigate the systems necessary for survival is ultimately about building community, fostering connection, and reinforcing dignity alongside our newer neighbors in NYC. As an immigrant-led and volunteer-run organization, we rely on the generosity of our supporters & donors to deepen and expand this work in the year ahead.
