Several years ago, while on vacation, I was driving along a dirt road deep in the jungles of Uganda when a young girl appeared, balancing a basket of produce on her head. She looked at me and said with determination, “I want to go to school. I want to go to school.” I soon discovered that she was one of the 50% of girls in rural Uganda who never had the chance to attend school or learn to read and write in their native language. Many others are trapped in cycles of child marriage, sexual abuse, and teen pregnancy.

This encounter changed my life. That day, I promised myself to do everything I could to help her and other girls like her. Her name was Dauphine—a 10-year-old girl who carried not just a basket, but also the hope and promise of education. Inspired by her, Dauphine’s Promise was born.
