My whole life agriculture and giving back to the communities that build me have been a building block of who I am has been a main pillar of my life. When I moved across the country to Reno last year, I quickly knew that I wanted to get involved in the local community and that is when I was introduced to Urban Roots. The minute I stumbled across their website and read their mission and what they strive for I knew I wanted to be apart of this organization. It was the puzzle piece that would fit perfect into my puzzle, and that is when they asked me to serve on their board. Words truly cannot express my love and gratitude for the Urban Roots organization and team; everyday they are doing something to better the lives of so many individuals and families across Nevada.
2020 has been a difficult year for the world, but especially Urban Roots. From spring break farm camps being canceled, to all summer camps being canceled it left the staff, board and community quite sad. But as a team, they quickly took their brains to paper and thought of fantastic ideas that as an organization they can step up this summer with no camps and still make a difference locally.
I know pockets are tight, but this virtual festival is going to been a hoot, and I would love to "see" you in attendance. I also urge you to give, even if it is small, it's making a huge difference in terms of allowing Urban Roots to keep making a difference in the lives of these communities. If you can't give, reach out, ask questions, get more information about Urban Roots; there is plenty of other ways to be involved.
Thank you for making a difference :)
