Navigating the medical system as a new parent is incredibly tricky right now, and living in a rural area makes finding specialized care even harder. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affect 1 in 5 new mothers, yet a staggering 75% go completely undiagnosed and untreated. Recent studies show that these struggles don't look the same for everyone, making them easy to miss within an overstretched healthcare system.

As a fairly new 501(c)(3) nonprofit peer support organization, we are working hard to build a vital safety net here at home.

We were very recently made aware of an incredible opportunity, and because we are so passionate about this type of community support, we are trying everything we can to make it happen... even though the deadline is just around the corner! We are racing against the clock to send our Executive Director to the 39th Annual Postpartum Support International (PSI) Conference and Affiliated Professionals Track for Perinatal Mental Health Certification.

Earning the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) will allow our Executive Director to act as a supportive bridge between new families and the medical system right here in the community. While they do not diagnose conditions or provide emergency clinical care, this advanced training equips our Executive Director to bring comfortable wellness check-ins, helping to catch early warning signs of postpartum stress before things escalate. She will use this specialized knowledge to expand our current support groups into educational workshops, teaching families how to plan for the postpartum period and spot the differences between the 'baby blues' and deeper anxiety. Most importantly, our Executive Director will act as a trusted resource navigator, offering non-judgmental emotional support and helping overwhelmed parents connect directly with vetted local therapists and doctors so no one has to figure it out alone

Just as importantly, this conference opens up the hopeful opportunity to network. Because we are still growing, being in a room with national advocates gives us a unique chance to start building relationships. Our hope is to bring those vital connections and resources straight back to our rural community, so our families feel less isolated.
