When an individual lives their whole life without consistent and reliable access to one of life’s most essential needs, they spend an extraordinary amount of time and energy focused on accessing that resource. This leads to neglecting the activities that enrich our lives, such as education, career, and even time with family, friends, and community. The best parts of life take a backseat to the struggle for basic resources.
