Rescued two months ago as a medical case, Velvet has endured more than any 11 month old puppy should have to. He deserves a carefree life filled with love, joy, and tail wags, but it seems like he just can’t catch a break.

After undergoing cherry eye surgery, we were hopeful for his recovery, but unfortunately, one of his cherries popped again. The vet informed us that his eye pockets are very deep, and the chance of this recurring is high. That’s not our only concern right now.

A week ago, Velvet started showing signs of illness. He became lethargic, stopped drinking water, and was barely eating. It was clear something wasn’t right, so we rushed him to the vet. Radiographs confirmed he had an abdominal infection, and while we tested for pancreatitis and conducted other exams, he was sent home hoping to recover.

However, yesterday he became even more lethargic, completely stopped eating and drinking, and we knew we had to act fast. We took him to the ER, where more tests were done. Thankfully, he tested negative for parvo, which was our biggest fear! X-rays showed no injuries or blockages, and he received fluids and anti-nausea meds that seemed to help. We’re so relieved he’s back home and feeling a bit better! ❤️‍🩹

Given Velvet’s ongoing medical needs and the care of 50 other dogs in our rescue, we’re reaching out for help.
