Why have you founded Vermont Comedy Arts?

Vermont Comedy Club has been in business for 10 years (!!) and it's time to create a separate, mission-driven organization to further our comedy education and community-building goals. To that end, we're proud to announce the formation of Vermont Comedy Arts, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization. VCA is poised to support and develop the local comedy scene and ensure a bright (and hilarious) future for generations to come.

What will Vermont Comedy Arts do?

VCA be taking on (and expanding) the education component of VCC. We will be offering more classes for adults and, finally, year-round camps and workshops for kids and teens! We will also be able to offer more scholarships to people who want to explore the comedic arts.

In addition, we are seeking a downtown space that will serve as A) office space for the nonprofit, B) additional space for classes and camps for kids, and C) a 40-60 seat performance space for local improv, sketch and standup programming on weekend nights. This will TURBOCHARGE the local scene!

And we will focus on producing and hosting community events and shows that nurture a robust and inclusive community - events such as: The Comedian BBQ; The Comedian Holiday Party; The Big Pond Improv Festival; The Vermont's Funniest Comedian Competition, and more.

Last but not least, we'll be offering grants and mutual aid to our community in order to assist financially with local comedians' professional growth and emergency needs.  

These are just some of the goals set out in our three year strategic plan. Long term (10 years & beyond), we may even look to purchase a building in downtown Burlington and house everything under one roof... anything is possible -- so stay tuned! Thank you for your support!
