The Church of the Holy Trinity was established in 1953 as a ‘Negro’ mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Located in West Baltimore’s historic Edmondson Avenue area, CHT has been an active participant in the leadership and community development of Baltimore City.

Beginning in 2024, CHT expanded its outreach program to include addressing the health challenges of our community. Through a generous Endowment grant by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, the Empowering a Healthier Community Outreach Ministry (EHCOM) was established. In 2024, CHT started the Cynthia Lynn Corbin Health Fair. During the summer, we distributed shelf stable food to school age children at risk for food insecurity during the summer break. We sponsored CPR/First Aid/Narcan training to help address opioid overdoses that were plaguing our neighborhoods. We also organized a Caregiver’s Workshop, focusing on self-care.

In 2025, EHCOM, with funding from another Endowment Grant, expanded its focus to include the young people in our community.

The Girls Empowerment Camp is a 5 day program for girls ages 9 - 11 years. The camp provides an uplifting, engaging, and empowering experience to help prepare them for a critical stage: adolescence.

Black and brown pre-adolescent girls are particularly vulnerable. On average, they undergo puberty earlier than their peers. In addition to being mentally and psychologically unprepared to cope with the physical changes, these girls are too often denied the grace afforded their same age peers. They are victims of sexual abuse, trafficking, and a phenomenon known as adultification, whereby they are treated more harshly by school administrators and the juvenile justice system.

The 2025 Girls Empowerment Camp focused on five modules: healthy body, healthy mind, healthy choices, creative expressions, and life skills. The girls received presentations on puberty, how to make good choices, social media, and study skills. Physical activity was encouraged through yoga, line dancing as well as jump rope and playing Twister. Chef-prepared breakfast and lunch were served throughout the camp. We also had an etiquette lesson as well as a real tea party.

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive from parents, campers, and staff.

The 2026 Girls Empowerment Camp will continue to endeavor to uplift and encourage campers with knowledge, skills, and confidence. Resilience, self-regulation, and decision making will be our focus.
