Urgent Relief Needed for Preschool Community

As many of you know, our preschool community has been devasted over the past month as ICE descended upon Minneapolis. Two parents and a grandparent have already been taken, and many others cannot work, take their kids to school, or even go to the store for groceries out of fear for their safety. While our amazing teachers and community have done their best to bridge these gaps, help is needed to protect these vulnerable families. All the money raised by this fundraising effort will go to provide 16 families with urgently needed rent relief, groceries (fresh produce and protein to supplement food shelf offerings), and school tuition for kids.

Sadly, we know this isn't a long-term solution and more support will likely be needed, but this will go a long way to bridging the gap as we search for longer term sustainable solutions for our families.

Thank you for your support in this trying time. We're stronger when we're together.

-January 27th Update-

The positive... since we started this fundraiser, incredibly we've received donations from over 450 people. Thank you. Thank you for your support. The money we’ve raised has covered February rent and utilities for many of the families in our preschool community. The money has made it possible to supplement food deliveries with fresh produce, proteins, and other necessities.

The difficult portion of the update... since we started this fundraiser, another parent from our community has been detained. One family made the decision to self-deport. School has been cancelled for the last two weeks to protect our teachers and the families of our most vulnerable little ones. Many parents are still unable to go to work, get groceries, or run other errands for fear of being on our streets. It’s hard to describe, but this situation just feels different in the worst of ways.

Our community still needs your help. Because of your generosity, we now have enough money for groceries, rent, utilities, and tuition through March. The need has now shifted to helping some of our families cover mounting legal fees as they seek asylum or navigate the legal system post-detainment. While pro-bono options exist, they are not accessible due to unprecedented wait lists, and time is something that we simply do not have.
