A Place with History
First Presbyterian Church of Albany (First Pres) has been a towering presence in the history ofthe Capital Region since its founding. For more than 260 years, First Pres has been a vital presence in the Capital Region. Our story began in 1763 when determined Scots Irish immigrants—
seeking to worship in their own tradition—finally secured land to build Albany’s first Presbyterian church.

From that modest wooden structure near Fort Albany to our current home overlooking Washington Park, each generation has built, expanded, and cared for a sacred space that reflects both beauty and resilience. Designed in 1883 by noted architect J. Cleveland Cady, our Romanesque
Revival building remains a landmark, with its soaring bell tower, arched stonework, and the original Meneely bell that still calls us to worship
today.

Please join us for a lecture by a local historian with deep knowledge about the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany and Tiffany Studios in the Capital Region, Kathy Sheehan of the Hart Cluett Museum. Kathy's lecture will include photos of spectacular Tiffany windows in our region.
