Altadena has long been a beacon of Black excellence—a community where cultural giants like Octavia Butler, Jackie Robinson, Eldridge Cleaver, and Sidney Poitier thrived and contributed to the rich tapestry of American history. This cherished legacy, however, is now under grave threat.

The Eaton Fire has devastated this community, leaving more than 7,000 structures damaged or destroyed. Beyond the immediate loss of homes and businesses, a looming danger threatens the soul of Altadena: climate gentrification. As rebuilding begins, skyrocketing costs and external developers could displace long-term residents, erasing the cultural and historical fabric that makes this place so unique.
