Who We Are

The Baltimore Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (Baltimore AROS) is a coalition of parents, students, city school staff and community groups fighting for an equitably funded, high-quality public education system. We believe directly impacted people should have a say in what their schools look like.

What We Do

Baltimore AROS leads campaigns to address the issues and concerns that students, families and staff experience as the directly impacted in Baltimore City Public Schools. Baltimore AROS leads fellowship programs for City Schools students, parents, school staff and community to organize, advocate, and lead change in their schools and communities together. Through the fellowship, parents and students learn community organizing, build teams, and navigate institutions to make their voices heard.

One of the biggest challenges preventing the directly impacted from participating in community organizing is not having access to childcare, transportation, and other financial barriers that prevent them from opportunities and resources that help to build the skills needed for change.

How You Can Support

Your Giving Tuesday donation fuels the expansion of our Baltimore AROS Fellowships for Youth and Parents in English and Spanish.

• $15 feeds a fellow or child for one session
• $25 pays for 1 hour of childcare
• $100 pays for childcare providers for an entire series
• $150 pays for meals for 10 participants for 1 session
• $400 covers interpretation for 6 sessions

Our Impact So Far

50 parents annually participate in our English and Spanish Parent Power series
Over 100 parents organized annually through school-level one-on-ones.
13 fellows testified in Annapolis on statewide education justice legislation.
Over 20 fellows testify annually before the Baltimore City School Board.
Spanish-speaking parents submitted dozens of testimonies on the need for language access, prompting the district to fund and complete a landscape analysis on language access for multilingual families as well as establish an office for multilingual families.

Why It Matters

Parents and students face unaddressed bullying, safety issues, and lack of engagement and communication from schools. Our Multilingual families face barriers with language access and engagement with their child's education. Individually, families struggle to make change — and children’s needs go unmet. Baltimore AROS creates a space where families can work collectively to organize, speak out, and lead lasting improvements in schools.
