In the summer of 2021, a diverse group of local non-profits, churches, businesses, and civic organizations came together with a shared vision for the future of Birmingham’s young people. These leaders recognized the power of collaboration and the importance of mobilizing our community to create the right conditions for meaningful, systemic change—change that would enhance the upward mobility of Birmingham students. That summer, a coalition was born: EmpowerED Birmingham.

Today, EmpowerED Birmingham unites over 30 local organizations serving thousands of students and families, all committed to transforming the educational landscape in the Birmingham metro area.  Through this collaborative effort, we’ve developed our Education Blueprint, which focuses on three core priorities:

1. Caregiver Advocacy Program – Empowering families to be active champions of their children's education.
2. Pipeline of Possibilities – Expanding opportunities and resources for students to explore their potential.
3. Successful Career Pathways – Creating clear and accessible pathways to meaningful careers for every student.
