In the heart of Southern Connecticut, a unique faith-based production is set to take the stage. “Wake Up: The Musical”, presented by the Southern Connecticut State University Department of Music, is an original student-directed Christian musical that captivates audiences with its touching narrative and powerful music.

Joshua Arizmendi, musical theatre producer and composer from Bridgeport, Connecticut, loves the idea of bringing biblically inspired theatrical compositions to life. His frustration over the lack of local faith-based theatre opportunities led him to create “Wake Up: The Musical,” a production that not only takes inspiration from the marginalized song-stories of the Southern Connecticut region but also provides a platform for local creatives of all ages to exercise their callings.

The musical will debut on October 25th at 7:00 PM in Garner Hall on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University. This labor of love has gained international interest, with Argentine musical arranger Javier Latuf collaborating with Arizmendi to bring the soundtracks to life. An album featuring these songs will be released on YouTube on the day of the play’s debut, allowing a global audience to experience the music.

“Wake Up: The Musical” features 10 original compositions that span a variety of musical genres, addressing themes related to Christian faith and ethnic diversity. The narrative explores how these elements impact the characters and their responses to tragedy, creating a relatable and thought-provoking experience for the audience.

As Arizmendi continues to partner with local musicians and plan future productions, “Wake Up: The Musical” stands as a testament to the power of Jesus Christ and what can be achieved when passion, faith, and community come together.
