When winter arrives in El Paso, most of us reach for our favorite coat, warm up the car, and settle into the comfort of the season. But for many children living in low-income housing, winter doesn’t feel magical — it feels cold. It feels heavy. And sometimes, it feels forgotten.

At the El Paso County Housing Authority, we see the quiet struggles happening behind closed doors. We see families doing everything they can — and still falling short. We see parents who skip meals, so their children don’t have to. We see kids trying to stay warm in hoodies because a proper winter jacket simply isn’t affordable.

But every now and then, a moment happens that reminds us why we must act.
