Story
****UPDATE: We reached our initial goal. THANK YOU! Donations beyond $2,000 will go toward expanding our online market to include Corvallis Weds market pick ups.****
Corvallis-Albany Farmers' Markets (CAFM) are open! And we are doing EVERYTHING we can to keep them open. Appropriately managed farmers' markets are a safe way to get healthy locally-produced food while supporting local small farms and food producers.
CAFM markets have adopted many practices to keep customers and vendors safe at the market, including wearing masks, practicing distancing, sanitizing surfaces, pre-bagging products, and having vendors pick your order. A next step in making the market safer and a more pleasant and efficient place to shop is PRE-ORDERING!
CAFM will launch an online PRE-ORDER marketplace in May for the Corvallis and Albany Saturday markets (Corvallis Wednesday pre-ordering may launch later). Vendors will post products (photos, descriptions, sizes, quantities, prices) to a CAFM online marketplace. Customers will shop the marketplace and pay for orders online 2 days before the market. Vendors will bring customer orders to the market. Customers will receive a receipt with a list of purchased products with vendor designations, and then use that list to pick up orders from vendor booths at the market.
How does pre-ordering make us all safer and help keep the market open?
PRE-ORDERING will:
1) allow customers to a) deliberate on what to purchase, and b) pay for their purchases, in the comfort of their home, reducing time standing in line and exposure to others
2) facilitate online payments, eliminating money exchange and card handling at market
3) reduce customer time at market, reducing individual exposure and helping the market achieve distancing requirements
CAFM wants MOST farms and customers to participate in the pre-order system in this critical and difficult 2020 season so it best serves customers and vendors. To achieve this, CAFM wants to make PRE-ORDERING available at no cost to all customers and vendors. To do so, we need to raise $2000 to pay the $500 online marketplace set-up fee and monthly maintenance fees. Credit card fees will be incorporated into product prices.
Support your farmers' markets, farmers and food producers by contributing to this effort! Every dollar counts.
